Inspired by Hindu scriptures, set in a post-apocalyptic world in the year 2898 AD, the film follows the few selected who are on a mission to save the unborn child, Kalki, of SUM-80, a lab subject.

First announced in February 2020, Kalki 2898 AD's production faced a year's delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prabhas' Kalki 2898 AD, which released in theatres to a positive review by fans, is projected to earn over Rs 120 crore in India and 60 crores overseas, totalling over Rs 180 crore on day 1. 

According to trade site Sacnilk the film is likely to make Rs 200 crore at the box office on its opening day itself.

Kamal Hassan will be seen as the villain, Supreme Yaskin . The character is inspired by Kamsa, the son of Yadava ruler Ugrasena.

Selling more than 1 million tickets for its opening day has made the movie 'Kalki 2898 AD', the first Indian film of the year to have sold so much of tickets in its advance booking phase.

Actors Prabhas and Deepika Padukone will be seen in the lead roles.
